Dimapur, May 10 (MExN): The United Sangtam Likhum Punji (USLP) has condemned the alleged “unwarranted assault” on two brothers “by the Chümoukedima Village Youth Society (CVYS)” on May 6 night.
The USLP office in a press release said that the retrogression exhibited by the youth society is reprehensible in a civilized society. Using violence and coercion to intimidate the fellow citizens into submission cannot be a new normal. “Taking the umbrage of youth society to terrorize and de-humanised fellow brothers’ in-front of the victim father even after repeated plea for mercy to spare his children from been brutalized smack the chauvinist attitude of the perpetrators,” it stated.
Therefore, USLP has called upon the authority and law enforcing agency to pursue the matter vigorously and thoroughly investigate the matter so that such incident should not be allowed to manifest again in future. “All the perpetrators should be booked without any fear or favour to serve the end of justice,” it urged.
KASU: The Kiphire Area Students Union (KASU) condemning the reported “attack” where two members of the union were beaten “black and blue” said it was “shocking in its intent and barbarity.”
The KASU in a press note stated that “the culture of intolerance and violence which has happened against its students members condemned of misdeed, asserting that it was the most uncivilized act.” The Union expressed confidence that the law enforcing agency will swiftly conduct a thorough investigation and book the perpetrators under appropriate sections of law to meet the end of justice.
Phelungre and Lihtsaoung village councils: The Phelungre and Lihtsaoung Village joint councils in its condemnation note stated that it opposes “the forced signing of the undertaking under threat, the same evening in order to release” one of the victim from their custody.
The Phelungre and Lihtsaoung Village Councils stated in a press release that they have taken a serious note on the alleged verbal abuse which is uncalled for in the present Naga society. “Such act is an open threat not only to a Sangtam citizen but also to the minor tribes who are residing in Chümoukedima area,” it stated while adding that the two “councils will not stop or keep quite till justice is meted out to the victim.”
DENSU: The Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (DENSU) has condemned the alleged “act of Chümoukedima Village Youth Society (CVYS) committed against” a minor boy and his family on May 6 at Chümoukedima, Dimapur.
DENSU in its condemnation stated that taking shelter under a society, no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands and more specifically before ascertaining the facts of the case. “It is extremely unacceptable and preposterous of the stand taken by CVYS even after Chümoukedima Village Council had clearly admitted and conveyed its regret for assaulting the minor while in their office. CVYS justifying on the so called undertaking is nothing but a mockery to the statement issued by the CVC.”
DENSU condemned the reported “amicable settlement/undertaking signed on that very night.” Further, condemning the report of “summoning a minor and family to their office at night and assembling crowd”, DENSU said it is a “clear violation of DC’s standing order and therefore the officials and volunteers of CVYS should be liable to be booked for the same.”
The Union stated that “there can be no justice with amicable settlement and no amicable settlement without consent.”
