Dimapur, December 17 (MExN): A Mahindra Thar vehicle illegally entered and got stuck on railway tracks in Dimapur Railway Station on Tuesday night, leading to the arrest of its driver for gross negligence, Dimapur Police said.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:35 PM on December 16 when the vehicle, registered as NL-01/CA-8181, illegally entered the railway tracks towards Dimapur Railway Station platform - DMV station (MXN side) and was stuck on Line No. 1 near the old flyover area (Burma Camp side.)

Upon receiving information, police personnel, in coordination with Railway authorities, immediately responded to the spot. “The vehicle was safely intercepted and removed from the railway tracks, ensuring that no harm was caused to passengers, railway property, or the general public,” the police said in its statement. 

Preliminary inquiry indicates the act was a result of “gross negligence and violation of traffic and railway safety norms.” The driver, identified as Thepfuneituo (65), a resident of Signal Angami in Dimapur district, has been taken into custody.

A case has been registered at the RPF station in Dimapur under Case No. 346/2025 dated December 17, 2025, under Sections 153 and 147 of the Railways Act.

Investigation is ongoing to ascertain all circumstances, “including whether alcohol or any other substance was involved,” the statement added.

The Dimapur Police, in the statement issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) & PRO, strongly cautioned the public that “unauthorized entry onto railway tracks is a serious offence posing grave danger to life and public safety.” It stated that such reckless actions endanger the individual involved, passengers, and critical infrastructure.

The police have sought public cooperation to report any suspicious or unsafe activities promptly, reiterating that “safety is a shared responsibility.”
