Venuzo Dawhuo emerged the champion title of the 31st general wrestling meet 2026 of Chokri Area Wrestling Association (CAWA), held at Phusachodu Local Ground on January 14.
Son of Nezohu Dawhuo from Thenyizu village, Venuzo qualified for individual championship bouts after defeating Ciihiiyi Chiizho (Khulazu Basa), Vevokho Ruho (Phusachodu) and Kevetsuto Kezo (Kikruma) in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd round respectively.
In the 1st semi finals, he defeated Besiihveto Cumu (Phusachodu) and later overpowered Swiiyieveyi Nakro (Chetheba) in the final to emerge the champion title.
Winning the champion title, he pocketed a cash prize of Rs 1.50 along with the championship belt.
The championship belt was sponsored by Kethose Chuzho, Proprietor, Chuzho Designs in memory of Rev Pusazo Chuzho.
Swiiyieveyi Nakro bagged the second position and received a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh. Nakro downed Krosuhu Thuluo (Phusachodu) in the 2nd semi finals. Besiihveto Cumu bagged the 3rd position and got Rs 70,000. 4th place winner Krosuhu Thuluo awarded with Rs 40,000, sponsored by Er Vedupa Kotso, JE, Electrical Store Division, Chümoukedima.
Beceve Vero from Thipuzu village bagged the champion title in Under 15 Category and pocketed Rs 40,000, sponsored by Veduzo Sasu, Deputy Director, Rural Development, Nagaland.
Vezhopa Dawhuo (Thenyizu) bagged the second position and received Rs 25,000, sponsored by Kuduve Keyho, PS to advisor Kudecho Khamo. Ciikrovezo Resii (Chetheba) stood 3rd position and awarded with Rs 15,000, sponsored by Rudasa Curhah, technical secretary Chakhesang Wrestling Association. Vetsiitso Kotso (Phusachodu) bagged the 4th place and received Rs 5000.
Nagaland’s CAWD & Taxes Advisor Kudecho Khamo and Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) president Vivolie Kezo graced the meet as the special guest and guest of honour respectively and gave away prize to the winners.
Chisazo Dawhuo officiated the meet as chief referee. He was assisted by Potsutso Thira, Vevohu Swuro, Zacura Ringa, Khriesacuyi Puyo-o, Thepukhoyi Swuro, Zashehu Curhah and Vethisa Khamo.
Wrestlers tracksuit was sponsored by JP Park & Banquets, Naga United Village, Chumoukedima, framed certificate by Er Shekhoto Thulutso, Junior Engineer, Urban Development department, programme by Zhopokhoyi Chuzho, proprietor AZ Print and caps by Khosato Theluo, entrepreneur.
The patron for 31st meet included; Zhavito Rhutso, BDO, RD Block Kikruma, Zhoveto Puro, chairman MSMEPCI Phek, Rukuzo Khamo, General Secretary COB Naga People’s Front, Medothi Rhakho, VCC Thenyizu, Punutso Rhakho, Retd govt. servant, Mudoluyi Cho-o, ex VDB secretary Phusachodu, Kunezo Puro, social worker, Ciekrotso Chuzho, VDB secretary Phusachodu and Medovi Rhi, ex president Naga Students’ Federation.
Earlier, CAWA Hukupa Ciekhan delivered presidential address while CAWA technical secretary Savizo Thira administered oath to the 21 senior wrestlers and 8 wrestlers Under 15 Category.
The inaugural function was led by CAWA finance secretary Uzho Kezo while welcome address was delivered by Velapa Theluo, VCC Phusachodu.
Vote of thanks was proposed by CAWA advisor Veta Resu.
