Dimapur | June 12
Officials of the Vigilance & Anti-Corruption unit of the Nagaland State Vigilance Commission are said to have raided the office premise of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) yesterday, June 11 in Dimapur.
According to government sources today, the Vigilance officials “visited” the DMC office following what the State’s administration says are “complaints,” received about alleged “misappropriation of revenue” within the city’s municipal institution.
Chief Secretary of Nagaland Lalthara was queried Tuesday evening, June 12 whether the commission’s anti-corruption officials actually raided the municipal council’s office in Dimapur. “I have not received the report yet.” The administrator told this daily that he was expecting “the report” in the next few days. “I have not received the report yet; maybe in the following 2-3 days,” Lalthara said.
The Chief Secretary was also unwilling to offer details. The State’s administrator explained that he was not privy to details about raids carried out by the commission’s officials. He said the Vigilance Commission has its own administrative sanction for function and action.
Nonetheless, on being prodded that the State government certainly cannot be uninformed if the commission actually raided the municipal’s office, Lalthara said “I have seen complaints; we can only refer such cases to the Vigilance commissioner. We receive complaints but can only endorse it to the commission and they take the decision” he said. “We received a complaint about misappropriation of revenue in the municipal council,” he added later.
Queried on the occasion he received the alleged “complaint,” Lalthara said it was “one week back, we received it.” He did not elaborate. Neither the DIGP of the anti-corruption unit of the commission JI Yaden nor DMC’s Chief Executive Officer Orenthung Lotha could be contacted for comment. The Secretary of the commission’s Establishment wing was also contacted but the official refused to provide details. The district administration could not be reached, as well.
