Kohima, June 15 (MExN): In its relentless efforts to popularize science and inculcate scientific temper among the people throughout the country, the Vigyan Prasar (VP), New Delhi has forayed into Nagaland and has announced to offer Radio and TV programmes including the formation of a science club in the state.
Vigyan Prasar, an autonomous organization under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, aims to promote and propagate a scientific and rational outlook in the society as widely as possible
VP’s Director Dr. Kamble in his address at the programme of science said that VP would focus on production of science serials and science quiz through AIR Kohima and DDK Kohima.
It would also focus on science communicators, orientation workshop, science-writers workshop and formation of science clubs in Nagaland. Dr. Kamble said that the team will meet the DDK and AIR Kohima separately to find out ways and means to accomplish the programmes.
Topics to be figured in such programmes would include biodiversity of Nagaland, health and medicine, environmental issue, biodiversity etc, he said.
Science serials will be worked out in consultation with Nagaland Institute of Health Environment and Social Welfare (NIHESW) and other scientific organizations of Nagaland.
VP will meet the expenses towards the production of scripts and at the same time offer TA/DA for participants. Prizes also awaits winners and listeners/viewers. A beginning has been made, he said adding that Vigyan Prasar will extend more programmes to the state pertaining to promotion of science and technology.
Principal Secretary, Information Technology & Technical Education and Science and Technology Dr. S. C. Deorani, IFS in his speech hoped that Vigyan Prasar will continue to work towards the promotion and development of science and technology in the state.
He suggested that children-friendly programmes be framed, adding that there was an urgent need to give due attention to the tender age-groups to instill basic knowledge on science and technology.
The programme was jointly organized by the NIHESW, NSSTEC, Kohima and the Department of Science and Technology. Dr. Inakhe Sumi, Honorary Director, NIHESW chaired the programme while Santu Thapa, Coordinator, NIHESW delivered the welcome address.
Dr. Man Mohansingh from Shillong and BK Tyagi, New Delhi were also present at the function. The Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Seyiekhrietuo John, Executive Director of the NIHESW.
