Villagerism is next to Tribalism

Once again the “ism” complex is rearing its ugly head in Nagaland. Democratic means of electing an MLA or MP in the context of Nagaland through secret ballots has become a laughing matter. The recent press declaration by a certain village council in support of the candidature of the incumbent MLA and Minister of Education Imkong L. Imchen violates not only secret voting but also the rights of individuals to choose their own candidates, whether for partisan or ideological reasons. Such declaration by an entire village, which is considered as “block voting” is undemocratic and boils down to corruption of the entire electioneering and voting process.

Another astounding matter that needs to be exposed is how blind people can get about the corruption of Imkong L. Imchen. Just a few months ago he was caught red handed for nepotism by letting his son take the place of a merit student, and here a village council instead of disciplining this corrupt minister, declares to support his candidature. How blind can people get than this about corruption? These things happen only in Nagaland.

“Moral Ground” is no reason to ask Imkong L. Imchen to step down from the ministerial post. As far as morality is concerned, he is corrupt and there’s no question about that. But he was caught “red-handed” for corruption, for nepotism. Catching red-handed for corruption is a black and white reason for Imkong L. Imchen to humbly step down by resigning from his post. Neiphiu Rio should have terminated him long time ago, but what can one say when Rio himself is not better than Imchen! Only in Nagaland!

Imkong L. Imchen still occupies the seat of being the Minister of Education without any shame.  Neiphiu Rio can still tolerate a  corrupt man and corruption within his cabinet. DAN has no voice about any corrupt practices who belongs to the alliance. Only in Nagaland!
