Villagers deprived of health care facilities

Heningkunglwa, (mexn): Even after its upgradation, the Heningkunglwa Primary Health Centre is still in shambles. It is still lacking in basic health care amenities.

Established in the 60s as a dispensary to provide health care facilities to the people of Heningkunglwa and its neighbouring villages, it was upgraded to its present Primary Health Care status in 2000 when the state was under the Congress regime.

However, the condition of the Centre is in a deplorable condition with complete absence of quarters for medical officers and other staff.

The old building is all in ruins and has turned into a rest house for stray domestic animals.

The Doctor comes off and on to tend to patients, but in the absence of even first aid medicines, he has expressed his helplessness even though he has concern for the health of the villagers.

The State Government has made a number of promises for improvement of the PHC, even up to the extent of providing six- bedded Health centre in the past, yet it only remains an illusion for the villagers.

“In spite of our repeated pleas, the Government has turned a deaf ear”, one of the villagers told this correspondent.
The PHC received some medicines earlier this year from the state, but it was relatively insufficient for the huge population, he also said.

An old lady, who is ill, recalled the past where proper medical facilities were accorded to them by the State, but she expressed regret over the indifferent attitude of the government towards the health of villagers.
