DIMAPUR, MAY 5 (MExN): The Chairman Union, a conglomerate of 33 villages under Jalukie sub-division has appealed to the state Government to begin the developmental works at the site endorsed by Zeliangrong Baudi for Peren district HQ.
The President of the Union, Maisiang, in a release said that the site was selected by Zeliengrong Baudi without any bias, but keeping in mind the democratic norms with broad outlook for the smooth development of the district.
Recounting the various proceedings that led to the selection of Jalukie as consensus choice, the Union said that on March 25, 2006, the general meeting of all prominent villages resolved to dissolve the 1st and 2nd site preferences as endorsed by District Site Selection Committee (PDSSC), and unanimously agreed to abide by the decision of the Baudi. Subsequently, the Baudi had declared Jalukie as the most suitable site for district HQ, after thoroughly considering the socio-economic and geographical condition, and in consultations with the land owners.
The Union, while appreciating the decision of the cabinet, expressed surprise over the sudden twist of the Government decision by sidelining the Zeliangrong Baudi resolutions.
The Union also further said that Zeliangrong Baudi, the apex tribal body has done the selection of district HQ basing on the mandate of the people, as such, the Govt. should start the work with realistic approach at the site endorsed by the Baudi.
