Vinoo Mankad Trophy: Nagaland U-19s beat Arunachal, qualifies for knockout

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 4 (MExN): Nagaland beat Arunachal Pradesh today at the Vinoo Mankad U-19 Trophy in Ranchi and qualified for the knock out round of the tournament. 

In a rain interrupted match, which was reduced to 30 overs a side, Nagaland beat Arunachal by 7 wickets. 

Arunachal won the toss and elected to bat first, putting up 153 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 30 overs. Amarjeet Sharma was their highest scorer with 49 runs.

For Nagaland, Raja took 4 wickets while Odilemba and Neizekho took 2 wickets each.

In reply, Nagaland reached their target to win of 154 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in just 26.2 overs. Yugandhar was Nagaland’s top scorer remaining unbeaten at 57 runs while Neizekho Rupreo contributed 51 runs. Mughavi pitched in with 29 runs of his own. 

Among the Arunachal bowlers, Leki Tsering and Amarjeet took a wicket each.

With this win, Nagaland topped the group table in the plate group and qualified for the knock-outs. They will play Uttar Pradesh (Elite Group A top 2 team) in the Pre-Quarter Final on October 11 at Ahmedabad.

Women’s U-19 match called off
Meanwhile the Women’s U-19 ODI trophy match between Nagaland and Manipur was called off due to rain. 

Winning the toss first, Manipur elected to bat first and were bowled out for 77 runs in 38 overs. Irengbam Shelina was their top scorer with 22 runs. 

For Nagaland, Soyimkumla shone with 5 wickets. Bipila took 2 wickets while Priyanka, Watinaro and Vipeni came away with a wicket each. 

Nagaland had a good chance to end their campaign with a win but the match was abandoned due to rain.
