Mon, November 19 (DIPR): A general meeting of the Mon district Village Council Chairmen and VDB Secretaries was held at Council hall, Mon on November 18.
Referring to the queries raised by the president Konyak Students Union regarding reports that there is a VIP share in the VDB and appointment of Government employees as VDB secretary in some villages, the DC responded that VDB is an independent body free from political influence and the question of VIP’s share in the VDB is wrong allegation. Regarding appointment of Government employees as VDB Secretaries, she asked the gathering to report the matter for necessary action.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner, Mon Angau I Thou appealed to the Village Council Chairmen and the VDB Secretaries to utilize the VDB fund judiciously and to maintain transparency and accountability while implementing VDB activities at the grass root level. She said all the schemes under VDB should be pre-planned and implement it with the concern of the VDB Members and the civil societies of the respective village. All meetings relating to the activities of the VDB schemes should be conduct openly and added it is the duty and responsibility of the Village Council Chairmen and the VDB Secretaries to know the rules and regulations of the VDB.
She also stressed on women’s share of 25% and youth share of 20% under grand-in-aid and urged the council Chairmen and VDB Secretaries to strictly implement it. She also exhorted to maintain peace and work with unity for the progress of the village.
Rtd. DC & Ombudsman, DRDA Mon L.T. Konyak lamented that despite various schemes under VDB there is hardly any visible development in most of the villages in the district. This shows that schemes are not implemented properly at the grass root level. He called upon the chairmen and VDB Secretaries to utilize VDB fund according to the needs of the village and implement it effectively for development of their villages.
Short speeches were also proposed by Mr. Honje Konyak, Project Director, DRDA and Mr. Tali Pongener, President, State VDB Association Nagaland. The programme started with Welcome speech by the president VDB Association, Mr. Wangpai M. Wangsa.
