Wangyuh demands more technical seats for State

DIMAPUR, APRIL 11 (MExN): Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Nagaland W Wangyuh Konyak has demanded the Centre to increase seats for higher technical education for Nagaland without further delay. Speaking at a meeting of MPs belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC) convened by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at his official residence on April 9 last to discuss the 27% reservation for OBCs, Wangyuh pointed out that Nagaland has been implementing OBC reservation with 33% quota for the last many years either in government service or technical education.

Buttressing his demand for increase in seats for higher education, Wangyuh pointed out that in the entire country only Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Nagaland does not have any technical education institution like medical college, engineering, IIT etc, which he claimed is a ‘crime’ on the part of the Government of India.

After hearing Wangyuh’s demand, Dr Singh reportedly assured to look into the matter urgently. Among others, HRD Minister Arjun Singh, Defence Minister AK Antony and Law Minister Hansraj Bhardwaz also attended the meeting.
