WITH THE Assam-Nagaland boundary issue coming to life again after the Supreme Court order on February 10 asking the Centre to constitute a boundary commission within three weeks time, Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland Wangyuh Konyak today said that the government of India should settle the dispute by implementing the 16 points agreement.
Certain clause of the 16 points agreement agreed to restore all the land that belongs to the then Nagas Hills, which was transferred by the British to the neighbouring districts of Assam in 1925 and prior to it.
Konyak said that though he is waiting for the Centre’s reaction on the Supreme Court order, the latter should implement the agreement that was arrived at with the then Naga leaders, which resulted in the formation of the present Nagaland State.
“We are not claiming even an inch of anybody’s land from any States”, Konyak said, adding that rather Nagas wants to live together in their own ancestral lands, which has been accepted even by India.
Wangyuh also further asserted that Nagas are trying to maintain a good relationship with all the neighbouring states.
“I don’t know what the reaction of the centre is so far, but as a people representative I should say that they should implement 16 points agreement in letter and spirit”, MP reiterated, while talking to The Morung Express from New Delhi today.
Only 13 days are left for the expiry of the Supreme Court order, but so far the centre has not come up with any reaction or comments to the court order.
