Kohima, August 5 (MExN): The State Election Commission (SEC) of Nagaland has declared all wards in 14 Town Councils as vacant following the cancellation of scheduled elections. The affected Town Councils are located in Mon, Aboi, Naginimora, Tizit, Tobu, Longleng, Tamlu, Noklak, Tuensang, Longkhim, Shamator, Kiphire, Pungro, and Seyochung. According to a notification from the SEC, no elections were held on the scheduled date as outlined in the Election Programme dated April 29. The SEC has invoked Rule 81 of the Nagaland Municipal Election Rules 2023 to address the situation, noting that any further steps toward filling these vacancies will be governed by Section 26 of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023.
