Warring NSCNs build up reinforcements

Dimapur, May 25 (MExN): Paving a wave for possible violent repercussions that observers feel would propel the state back to the brutal pre-ceasefire era, a considerable reinforcement of NSCN (IM) fighters have been reported to have reached Zunheboto district today following reprisals in the wake of the killing of NSCN (K) Kilonser Ngampan as well as NSCN (IM) functionaries including the Leacy of Zunheboto, Sukhaho Rotoka by the respective rival factions.

Relative to this, NGOs and organizations representing different sections of the society have served an ultimatum to both groups that the public of Zunheboto would react at all cost if peace was not maintained.

Latest information received from sources in Zunheboto said that the NSCN (IM) reinforcement arrived today while more fighters from the NSCN (K) is either being built-up or expected to arrive very soon.

The built-up of reinforcements of the warring factions has created a palpable pall of fear and terror amongst the people of Zunheboto and its adjoining areas, sources said. It was informed that the affected areas are extremely tense with business establishments, institutions and offices remaining closed since 3 pm and people remaining indoors for fear of a major showdown, expected any time.

Concerning the extreme tension in the town, it was informed that Church leaders from Zunheboto met with representatives from both the warring factions today where the concern of the public was made known. The church leaders asked both the factions not to fight in Zunheboto town and also asked them to “keep their cool”, maintaining peace in the interest of the people. When contacted neither of the NSCN factions gave their assurances in the matter, it was informed at the time of filing this news report. The NSCN (K) while giving no assurance on the matter however said it would try to maintain peace in the area. On the other hand, NSCN (IM) representatives, also without giving assurances, said they are waiting for further orders from the higher command of the organization.

Meanwhile, it was informed that different NGOs and civil organizations, after a meeting today, have served an ultimatum to both the groups that the public was ready to “surely react” in a befitting manner if any clash takes place in the area. “The public will surely react irrespective of whichever faction and the people will use whatever means it has if any clash takes place” sources said quoting a public leader. The announcement which was made colony/Khel wise was made through the SKK.
