Watsü Mungdang, the apex women organization of the Ao community, organized its 22nd general conference at Town hall Mokokchung on August 27. The conference was supposedly scheduled in 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic.

The theme speaker, Dr I Asongla Pongen, Founder, Library cum Theological Research Consultancy, Mokokchung said that women were always present and took prominent role in all aspects of life since time immemorial. She said that women are making progress and overtaking men in all areas. While keeping in view the great achievements and doings of women, she said that Ao women also lack in certain aspects. “Ao women lack confidentiality, they sometimes forget their identity and tend to make people take advantage of them when it comes to morality and many women also suffer in the economic field,” she said.

She also acknowledged the support women are receiving from men especially in the present age and concluded her speech by stating two of her visions: firstly, that women are given equal opportunity to participate and involve in the office of Ao Senden, the apex organization of the Ao Nagas and secondly, that women are inducted as pastors and leaders in church bodies not just in words but in reality, too.

Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung Limawabang Jamir and Ao Senden President, Chubawati Longchar also spoke on the occasion. The two sessions of the conference were chaired by the office bearers.
