Dimapur, December 6 (MExN): Leaders of 25 selected villages under Dimapur district converged at the office of the Executive Engineer, PHED (Rural) Division, Dimapur for an awareness and capacity building training on Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) for Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) Committee members of 25 villages under Dimapur district.
The programme organized by PHED (Rural) Division, Dimapur and sponsored by Water and Sanitation Support Organization (W.S.S.O) is an effort to train WATSAN members and village functionaries on their responsibilities, and create awareness on many sanitation and water related aspects., so that the TSC goals are realized with better community participation and ownership of government created assets.
Secretary of Diezephe village, Vezoto acknowledged the role of the department in this initiative and termed the training as that of ‘great profit’ for the participants, so also an eye opener for the village officials to know the facts and report it back, to create a difference in their community.
Another WATSAN member from Purana Bazar expressing his thoughts in the interactive session called the programme as an educative venture and apprised that they (as participants) are taking with them words of great value, which were not known to them or heard of earlier.
The resource persons for the sessions were P. Khetoi Sema, Executive Engineer (PHED) Rural Division explained to Objective, of the programme, Guidelines on WATSAN formation and its functions.
Mersen Walling, Project Engineer, District Water and Sanitation Mission spoke on Unsanitary practices and related diseases, latrine construction techniques, Hand washing with soap and Nirmal Gram Puraskar. Vibou Seyie, IEC Consultant, PHED (Rural) Division, Dimapur dwelt on Good Sanitary practices, methods of waste disposal and evils of plastic burning. Imojungla Longkumer, Sanitation& Hygiene Consultant chaired the training.
The programme was attended by the respective Village Council Chairman, VDB secretary, WATSAN chairman, WATSAN women representative, women leader and student leaders numbering about 75 besides departmental officials.
