‘Reconciliation among legislators important too’
DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 12 (MExN): The Political Affairs Mission (PAM) of the Naga People’s Front's (NPF) foray to forge reconciliatory dialogue between the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPGs) and NSCN (IM) appear to have met a hurdle.
A day after the NPF-PAM triumphantly announced that the two Naga Political Groups have agreed “in principle” to seat across the table, the WC-NNPGs expressed surprise at the statement.
In a press statement, the WC-NNPGs said that it was “prepared to meet anyone or any group.” However, it added that as elected legislators, the members of the NPF-PAM should also reflect “inclusiveness” by reconciling with the Joint Legislators Forum.
The statement outlined, what it stated were “four opinions” expressed by the WC to the NPF-PAM at the meeting held at Father's House Church, Chümoukedima on September 12.
It said that the WC told the NPF-PAM that it would be “wiser to focus more on solution rather than on reconciliation, aware that much effort fell short and that there would be only one Indo-Naga political solution.”
While stating, “There existed a school of thought among Naga groups that the door was open and that Naga political groups under WC, NNPGs must reconcile under Framework Agreement of NSCN (IM),” it added, “If this idea of reconciliation was still the criteria, it would be a mockery, an insult to the very theme of Naga reconciliation. It further cited “the rise and ebb of FNR remains a stirring example.”
“Reconciliation among elected members is important before preaching reconciliations on NPGs. This is no time for outsmarting each other nor go selling reconciliation in the market. This is not the time to draw political mileage either. As expressed by the 14 Naga tribes and the Nagaland Gaon Buras demanding for an early honourable and acceptable political solution. The Government of the day and the opposition parties must work in tandem at this moment,” it said.
