WC, NNPGs accuse Niki group of ‘anti-Naga activity’

Dimapur, July 4 (MExN): The Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) on July 4 accused the Niki Sumi-led group of indulging in ‘anti-Naga activities’, alleging that the group had taken a U-turn from their initial claim of wanting peace and political solution, and resorting to anti-people activities.

In a statement issued by its media cell on Sunday, the WC, NNPGs said that it is ‘deeply disturbed’ by the “unrestrained aggressive behaviour” of Niki Sumi’s group in and around Dimapur town.

Reconciliation among Naga groups, the Ceasefire and three years of Naga tribes-endorsed political negotiations between Government of India (GoI) and WC is being threatened, the statement read.

It alleged that, after ‘surrendering’ to the Indian Army in 2020, although the group has denied their “sell-out”, their activities speak volumes of their “desire to repay their new masters as per the undisclosed terms of surrender for which a safe passage from Myanmar to Nagaland was the first step.”

The WC went on to point out that “Niki Sumi and his band are being sheltered and funded almost like a regular Indian Army with cash and rations,” further accusing the group of being assigned to lure and recruit habitual defectors and ‘traitors’ to “instil hatred, indignation and frustration in the mind of the Naga tribes against WC.”

The Committee questioned why Niki Sumi is luring all “restless pseudo workers” with money and ranks after declaring to Naga tribal leaders that he has no political agenda or demand but will support honourable and acceptable political solution.

“The only plausible reason for abnormal marketing and conferment of ranks and positions is to destroy the sanctity and merit based structure of Naga political movement both in the civil and military,” it observed.

Accusing the GoI of ‘setting a wolf among sheep’,   the WC asserted that Niki Sumi has “gone too far” with intent to discredit and marginalize the political process. WC and Naga tribes will not remain mute spectators anymore, it stated, adding that, “WC will be forced to respond if its integrity and commitment to peace and solution is taken as a sign of weakness.”

It highlighted that there is a clear standing principle and understanding that there would be close working relationship on the ground among the military wings of the seven NNPGs.

A threat to one group would be confronted through co-ordination with tribes, GBs and civil societies, the Committee stated.

Asserting that time has come to “save the land and people from traitors,” the WC, NNPGs reminded Niki Sumi that “It is better to remain a Naga in flesh, mind and spirit.”
