DIMAPUR, JULY 31 (MExN): The Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (W/C, NNPGs) led by MB Neokpao as Convener has announced the formation of an Immigration Control Task Force, citing a “pre-imminent threat” to the demographic, socio-economic and political future of the Nagas.
A press release stated that the decision was taken to “control and regulate issues related to illegal immigrants in Naga inhabited areas.”
The committee affirmed its respect for religious tolerance and the secular nature of co-existence among diverse communities in Naga regions, but cautioned that “the liberal approach shall never be allowed to be misused to promote religious fundamentalism.” It stated that the W/C “shall not allow any Madrasas to be established and shall also disband any Madrasas in existence if any in the Naga inhabited territories,” and asked Muslim Councils in Naga areas to co-ordinate with the Task Force on related issues.
It informed that an identification and registration of migrants would be undertaken, and that this process would be carried out with the aim of avoiding “unnecessary harassment to legally settled citizens.”
The committee clarified that “the orientation of the W/C must in no manner be mis-judged as anti-muslim agenda or against any particular religious or social groups.”
