The Wokha District Village Councils Chairmen Association (WDVCCA) inducted its new team of office bearers at the Wokha District VDBs and Chairmen Hall on October 16. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Wokha, K. Mhathung Tsanglao, attended the programme as the special guest.
Addressing the gathering, Tsanglao said that the appointment and clearance of village council chairmen had been completed in almost all of the district’s 138 villages, with only a few cases remaining.
He said village council chairmen represent their respective communities and urged them to carry out their duties with sincerity, fairness and responsibility. He also highlighted their role in implementing government schemes and programmes and ensuring the proper functioning of village administration.
The DC informed that a seminar on the roles and responsibilities of village councils would be organised soon to help chairmen better understand their duties.
Stressing the need for unity among the Lotha community, Tsanglao urged village leaders to resolve differences through dialogue and mutual understanding. He said the community’s common language was an important factor in bringing people together and encouraged leaders to work collectively for the welfare of the community.
“United we can achieve unimaginable things for the community,” he said, cautioning against divisions that could affect unity.
He also urged the WDVCCA to play a mediating role in resolving issues and maintaining peace within the community.
The WDVCCA represents village council chairmen from 138 villages across seven administrative blocks of Wokha district. The newly elected team is headed by T. Robin Lotha as president.
Rev. Abemo Jungio, pastor of Wokha Town Baptist Church, offered a prayer for the newly inducted team.
