Kohima: “We need to change our attitude. We need to break all the impossible barriers and build a place where ‘inclusive’ is in all spheres of life” Purnima Kayina from Cherry Blossoms School reaffirmed the statement during the review programme of NGOs receiving Grant In Aid (GIA) from the Department of Social Welfare held at Zonal Council Hall, Kohima on May 6.
Review of NGOs receiving GIA from Social Welfare Department
The programme was graced by Kiyaneilie Peseyie, Minister, Social Welfare. Khevito T. Shohe, Director, Social Welfare Department who gave the keynote address stated that the programme was held to give honor and respect to all the organizations working towards the uplifting of the weaker sections of the society. Shohe further requested the media to give due attention to the department and its works even though the department does not deal with a huge deal of funds. 51 NGOs are receiving Grant-in-Aid from the department.

Three minutes of sharing/speech was presented by fifteen NGOs where they shared on the works and programme of their respective organizations. Mother’s Hope Dimapur, which deals with adoption services and women with unwanted pregnancies, stated that most of the pregnancies (that comes to their home) which ranges from the age group of 12 years to 42 years are caused by rape, incest, and only 10 percent through consensual sex.
Community Education Center, Dimapur requested the department to enlarge their schemes and further look around the needs of many other deserving NGOs. The Center further appealed the department not just to come and inspect and spent time with the staffs, build relationships, advise, extend their support and not just provide funds or projects because projects lasts only for a few years but relationships sustains for long.
Special songs were presented by the special children from Tabitha Enabling, Kohima and Cherry Blossoms Kohima. The Grant in Aid (GIA) was also disbursed to the NGOS followed a speech by Kiyaneilie Peseyie.
In total, 41 lakh in total was given as GIA to the 51 NGOs.
