We will break Cong base in Aonglenden: NPF

Mokokchung, May 1 (MExN): Naga People’s Front (NPF) party leaders of Mokokchung today asserted that they will crush the Congress party’s base in Aonglenden constituency during this by-election scheduled to be held on May 7, 2011. Addressing media persons at Hotel Metsupen here today, NPF Mokokchung Division president, R lepden Longkumer today alleged that the time of Jamir’s leadership is now over and people have begun to understand and appreciate the leadership of the present DAN Government.
Acknowledging Jamir as a great leader, R Lepden Longkumer, however, said that there is a time for everything and the time for Jamir’s leadership is at a sunset stage. He said that bringing in Jamir’s leadership at this state would be like drying rice grains in the open after sunset. “It is (leadership) just like a medicine, when a medicine even if it is a good one, after it passes it expiry date, does not help, but it has a (bad) reaction on the body,” said Lepden Longkumer, a former MLA.
Besides questioning Jamir’s stand that he wants to work for Naga unity, R Lepden asked why Jamir chose to go away as the governor of Goa instead of working for the Naga people as a responsible opposition member. “What guarantee about bringing about peace and prosperity in Nagaland,” questioned R Lepden, “His days as a leader are gone, therefore, the NPF has brought in a young leader (Toshipokba Longkumer) to contest this election.”
Besides, he also alleged that Dr Jamir wrote to the Home Ministry that he is going to be assassinated and is also misusing his bodyguards and security personnel to create trouble in the constituency, so that he can bring in more para-military forces in the constituency. In this connection, R Lepden that Jamir looks like ‘a gentleman outwardly, but he loves bloodshed’. R Lepden also questioned Jamir’s claim of working for bringing a solution to the Naga political issue, while at all times he talks about the 16 point agreement, ‘the latest being the AKM General Conference at Ungma where he justified the signing of the 16 point agreement’.
“What was he doing during the past many years? There is nothing about political settlement in Congress manifestoes,” asked the NPF Mokokchung unit president asked.  He added that the people of Aonglenden knows about Jamir’s and this time the people will vote for the NPF candidate in support of the dynamic leadership of chief minister Neiphiu Rio.
The NPF candidate, Toshipokba Longkumer reiterated his objective of working for the welfare of the youth once he is elected in this by-election. He also asserted that he will join hands with the present elected representatives in Nagaland and contribute to solving the Naga political issue in tune with the present DAN Government which is acting like a facilitator to the current negotiations.
