Crop Advisories

     Field preparation should be started for sowing of summer pulses (pea, rajmah, green gram etc), maize

    Harvesting should be done for rapeseed when the pods turn yellow and it  should preferably be done in the early hours during morning as the moisture accumulated during night prevent the shattering of pods

    Green manuring crops like cowpea, cluster bean, dhaincha, sunnhemp, sesbania rostrata should be grown as rice based cropping system.

    Monitor timely for storage pest like moth and weevil infestation

    Early sowing of maize in March-April escapes the attack of most pests. Crop rotation should be carried out with other crops as it reduces the pest infestation by interrupting the continuity of the food chain. Use resistant varieties in consultation with your respective Agri department.

    For litchi, spray Neem oil (5ml /L) before flower opening to avoid egg laying. Keep 10- 15 honey bee boxes/ha. Avoid chemical spray during flowering

    If there are any remains of malformed panicles of mango on the plants, the same should be removed manually and  destroyed.

    Set up yellow pan sticky traps for white flies and aphids in horticultural crops at far above canopy height.

    While pruning fruit trees, remove crowded/dead/broken/diseased branches and destroy them. Do not pile them in the orchards which may act as source of pest infestation.

   Clear all aquatic weeds from the water as well as pond embankment. Aquatic weeds are not desirable as they reduce the living space for fish, consume essential nutrients required for growth of fish food organisms (phytoplankton), prevents the entry of sunlight into the pond, utilizes the available dissolved oxygen at night and provides shelter for predatory organisms that prey upon the fish seed.
