Western Rengma Hoho urges govt to expedite Foothills Road project

Dimapur, March 18 (MExN): Western Rengma Hoho (WRH) has urged the Nagaland government to expedite the ongoing Foothills Road Project, which stretches about 395 km from Khelma in Peren district to Tizit in Mon district.

In a statement, the organisation said the Foothills Road represents a long-felt need of the people of the state and its completion would bring wide-ranging benefits by improving connectivity, boosting economic development, and enhancing accessibility across Nagaland.

While appreciating the state government’s initiative and its efforts to upgrade the Foothills Road into a National Highway, the WRH expressed concern that such an upgradation could take considerable time.

It emphasised that priority attention should be given to the timely completion of the existing two-lane Foothills Road project, which has already been under implementation for more than a decade.

In this regard, the WRH extended its full support to the memorandum submitted on February 21, 2026, by Dimapur-based Naga tribal hohos to the state government, urging issuance of the second phase work order on or before March 31, 2026.

The organisation appealed to the government to consider the collective representation seriously in the larger interest of the people and to take prompt and decisive steps to ensure continued progress and early completion of the project, describing it as vital infrastructure for the state.
