Nagaland today appears a State unable to distinguish the deceptive Facades from the Real and the Sensible from the Insensible. The State appears to be under a spell of Naklis (false deceptions).
The Naga Hoho writing to the Governor to “cleanse the Nagaland University” (EASTERN MIRROR: 1 October 2016), said: “Unfortunately, right from the beginning a poor choice was made in the appointing the Vice Chancellor......, personal loyalty got the better of more relevant considerations like competence, academic eminence and personal integrity”.
They also decried the: “current trend of heavy employment from other states particularly from Manipur and Assam......., sidelining of hundreds of local qualified unemployed youth in the state”. And demanded the appointment of the Head of the University should be “non-political”.
The Words and Style of the Writing surprisingly, appear unlike the normal Naga Hoho communications. They (the Words) are flowing, scholarly, hard hitting the Bull’s Eye and distinctly ringing. Paradoxically, the Naga Hoho itself in reality exhibits the same conditions they want the Governor of Nagaland to ‘cleanse’ in the University.
Loyalty to certain Quarter to Politics and to the resourceful Governments, appear to be the Hallmark the Naga Hoho’s main strength. Equity, Justice and Nagaland State’s Interest do not appear to touch their concern much. Such behavior resulted in the departure of 6 sidelined unprivileged major Tribes of Eastern Nagaland –Chang, Phom, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Sangtam and Yimchungrü- from the Organization and recently three more of the most educated and active of Central Naga Tribes Council -Ao, Lotha and Sümi Tribes- dissociated themselves from the Naga Hoho despite great afford by the Authorities of the State to change their decision.
The Hoho has more often than not supported the non-Indigenous on Granting of Privileges and Employment in the State. The Organization’s untenable position of granting the Status of ‘Indigenous Tribe of Nagaland’ to some non-Indigenous Persons in Nagaland is so impertinent to the future Nagas of Nagaland that the Aos, Lothas and Sümis have cut off ties with the Hoho.
The Nagaland Assembly is wonderfully without any Opposition; all the countless independent Parties of the State have united into a single mutually feared Pact of self-seeking United Voice and this ‘facade of Democracy’ is extolled as a great sign of democratic Unity! What a difficult Idea to accept?
So much was the mutually feared friendship inside the Assembly that none of them had the courage to ask any questions pertaining to the Subject under the other friend. No wonder, the Businesses of the August House finished in a single just one 15 minutes Session.
Surprisingly even the Sonia Congress supported its adversary Government in the State in the unreasonable recognition of the Non-Indigenous as ‘Indigenous of Nagaland’! Certainly, something strange has bewitched Nagaland!
And all the Members support the Indo-NSCN political Accord the Public has no knowledge of even the Principal Points of the Accord! True, the discussion must continue but what kind of Leaders and Public in their sound mind would sign a blind Cheque? Certainly something is amiss in the Politics of Nagaland. Reality and Conviction are buried.
Honesty and Truthfulness in the top Political Role Model Leaders have no time for public discussion and they move about gloriously among the people with questionable Academic qualification not showing the slightest sign of sensible embarrassment.
People from outside the State have become Ruler of the Land influencing enactment of Land and Mineral exploitation Laws in the name of Land Development and thereby taking away the Rights and Privileges of the Land Owners, which is why the British drastically went out of the EU ending the European Parliament Power to make Laws binding the British. The British have vowed to make Law for themselves in the British Parliament to suit the British. Often the Public actually is not that foolish.
The Nagaland governing authority pays scant attention.
As for the Leaders in the Church, they are to act like Prophets of antiquity instilling the Spirit of God in the Kings and the People to remove the Reproach on the Land; blissfully Nagaland continues the Gospel in Words as usual.
Paul did not take Words alone to the Thessalonians (I Thes.1: 5), he said: “because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction”.
The American Missionaries sacrificed their life in bringing the Words to Nagaland, but Nagaland accepted the Words without Conviction or the Holy Spirit, perhaps which is why the Courage of the Holy Spirit and the Conviction of Reality lack in Nagaland.
Weeds have overgrown over the Kingdom; Crop Plants are seen among the thistles, but they (crops) do not bear much fruits!
Very unkind words, but hopefully sour food sometimes restore Good Taste in the Mouth afterwards!
