•-Anna Hazare's 'Fast unto Death', demanding the Government to constitute a Joint Drafting Committee to draft a new bill to investigate and prosecute corrupt Public Servant impartially, caught the imagination of the entire Nation. This was evident from the fact that people from all walks of life, notably the Youth of India landed their support to this noble campaign.
But has this wave, had any sort of impact in our state - Nagaland, remains to be seen. Corruption in Nagaland is as old as the movie 'Mughal-e-Azam' from Bollywood, and as colourful and vibrant as its coloured version. It is deeply rooted, firm and menacing, covering the entire hierarchy from the top to the bottom of the Government machinery, flowing like a meandering river; it washes away principles, dignity, honesty and all other human values. Painfully, the younger generation seems to embrace and easily adapt to it. And it comes as no surprise to the speculation (or Fact) that many Nagas have handsomely contributed to the 'Noble Cause' of safely storing 'Black Money' in many foreign banks.
It is indeed unfortunate that the 'ANNA' effect seems to have had no impact on the people of Nagaland. We have two ways of dealing with corruption in Nagaland - Be a Crusader and change the system or be a part of the corrupt system. Sad to say we are following the later. To be a Crusader like Anna Hazare, it takes a lot of guts, courage and determination. But are we not known for these qualities? 'Nagas are Warriors' so they say. If only everything in life had a logical conclusion, there would be thousands of Anna Hazare form Nagaland standing tall. But the real practical world has a different tale to tell. The wait is on - Who will be the Anna Hazare of Nagaland? Till then, corruption prevails.
