Will killing bring Nagas freedom? NMA ask factions

Dimapur, May 26 (MExN): The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), while reminding the warring factions that countless children and women have become orphans and widows from the killings, has asked if the fratricide would bring the Naga people, freedom. The NMA was reacting to the renewed spate of fratricidal killings between the two NSCNs following the Killing of NSCN (K) Kilonser Ngampan in Mon recently.

Reminding that no amount of justifications or condemnations can bring back the dead to life again, the NMA expressed anguish that even after years of coexistence, the Naga people have not yet learnt to respect and live together and value the miracle of human life. “It pierces a mother’s heart to witness her own dying son, killed in the hands of his brother” an NMA statement from Lochumbeni Humtsoe, Joint Secretary grieved while reminding that countless women and children have become widows and orphans due to the mindless killing between the Naga brethren.

“How many deaths will it take till we know that too many people have died? Are we to believe that these deaths will bring freedom? How long are we expected to mourn silently? How long are we to tolerate unscrupulous power-mongers who sacrifice others’ lives to retain their position of power?” the NMA questioned.

Further, while reminding that the Naga movement started with sincerity with the consent and anticipation of the people, the mothers also asserted that the movement cannot be internalized and reduced to an exercise of divisive politics and murderous hatred. “The Naga Mothers’ Association calls upon all to reaffirm their commitments, with more dedication and compassion for each other, although there may be differences of opinion. It is only through applications for the value of life that real peace and harmony can come to our land” the NMA said.
