DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 13 (MExN): The Rising People’s Party (RPP) today questioned if the UDA Government in Nagaland will condemn the “utter lies and despicable statement of the Home Minister Amit Shah with regard to the Oting massacre made in the Indian parliament.”
“His fabricated statement is like rubbing salt to the wounds. It worsened the situation in the state leading to more protests including burning of his effigies in different parts of the state,” a press release from the RPP stated.
It demanded that the Union Home Minister retract his “fabricated statement which was made to confuse the outside world and protect the murderers in the guise of 21 Para SF.”
The RPP said that despite 3 weeks having passed since Shah made his statement, the 3 parties of the ruling UDA coalition are yet to condemn the same. It demanded that the NDDP, BJP and the NPF condemn the Home Minister’s statement in totality.
“The issue is simple - whether the UDA Government is with the Naga people or with Amit Shah. Fundamental to the issue is countering the narrative of the Home Minister. Suffice to say the UDA coalition should demonstrate beyond doubt that it's above party politics,” it stated.
The RPP demanded that the during the assembly session on December 20, “all the 60 MLAs of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly condemn the Oting massacre by the 21 Para SF.”
“A resolution should be adopted that the killings were nothing but cold-blooded murder. Targeted killings by army personnel for promotion and medals has been established and documented in Kashmir and elsewhere and such can be assumed for this case,” it said.
The RPP said that the Mon killings require a thorough probe by a sitting Judge of the High Court/Supreme Court, and asked the NLA to adopt a resolution demanding for the constitution of a Supreme Court led independent probe.
The RPP further expressed concern at what it termed as the “disturbing pattern” in the role of the DC and SP of Mon district.
“Between the 1st firing and the 2nd firing by the 21 Para SF, there was a gap of almost 5 hours. During this crucial period, the district administration went missing,” the RPP claimed and demanded that both the DC and the SP be “suspended immediately till the outcome of the SIT report is made known.”
