Wokha District Legislators appeal on modalities for oil

Dimapur, May 23 (MExN): The legislators of Wokha District have issued a press statement with regard to the framing of modalities for oil, and appealed to all concerned to be patient and not resort to agitations. The statement signed by Ralanthung Yanthan, Dy. Speaker, Dr Chumben Murry, Minister, Yanthungo Patton, Parl. Secy. and Er. W. Kithan, Parl. Secy, stated that the legislators were ‘compelled’ to give the press release in view of the ‘unilateral stance’ taken by the Lotha Students’ Union on the issue of framing of modalities for oil.

In light of the July 2010 resolution of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Article 371(A), the legislators acknowledged the fact that, framing of modalities for oil and natural gas is not an easy task but is time consuming. The legislators appreciating the initiatives taken by the Cabinet Sub-Committee, stated that taking into view the ‘uniqueness of the situation’, the Cabinet Sub-Committee will have to take into ‘in depth consideration of not only the immediate and long term impact’ of the modalities in making but also its relationship with other aspects of ‘Land and its resources’.

Stating that the legislators are ‘equally anxious for early resumption of activities’ in Changpang oil fields, the statement further informed that, in this regard, the wishes of the people of the District in general and of the people of Changpang oil field area in particular, have been placed, on record, to the appropriate authority.
