Wokha farmers visit tea plantation in Assam

Wokha, February 7 (MExN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Wokha conducted interstate farmers training cum exposure visit to Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, Assam for tea growers from January 27 to 30.


During the exposure visit, the farmers visited Borsillah Tea Estate at Galecy, Sivasagar, Assam, small tea plantation and low cost green tea and black tea processing unit of a local entrepreneur at Galecy, Department of Tea Husbandry and Technology at AAU Jorhat and green tea and black tea processing unit in Jorhat.


The farmers were trained on how tea should be planted in sloppy areas. The farmers were also taught on low cost production of green and black tea and on how to do cutting for nursery planting. They were encouraged to go for organic tea cultivation.


Resource person during the visit and training were Professor Dr GK Saikia, Assistant Professor M Gogoi, Professor SC Baruah, Professor M Deka from the department of Tea Husbandry and technology and local entrepreneur Basanta Dwara. Tea growers from L Longidang, Longtsuri, New Tssori and Old Amboto participated in the programme led by two ATMA officials - Abeni and Nzani.
