Wokha, June 17 (MExN): The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Wokha organised one-day ‘Anemia Mukt Bharat’ orientation training for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) and Government teachers of Wokha district at Likya Community Hall, Wokha on June 17.
According to updates received from the office of the Wokha Chief Medical Officer on Friday, resource person, Dr Zuben Kikon, Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Wokha welcomed the participants and highlighted on the major health implications of Anemia. He said that lack of iron deficiency leads to anemia which affects cognition power in children, and results in still births and maternal deaths during pregnancy. He also encouraged the government teachers to watch for signs and symptoms of anemia among school students and emphasised on the importance of taking iron folic acid tablets in order to prevent the disease.
The second session was taken by Dr Chibenthung Kithan, Senior Medical Officer, Humtso Primary Health Centre, who as per the release, stated that; ‘The aim of this training is to reduce prevalence of anemia in the district by imparting proper knowledge on anemia to the ASHAs and teachers.’
Topics on strategy to combat anemia, prevalence rate of anemia in the state, causes, diagnosis and risks of anemia, advantages of taking iron folic supplementation for adolescent girls and pregnant women were taken during the second session. The training was attended by medical staffs and more than 230 participants from all the five blocks of the district.
