Wokha: New Agri schemes to boost farmer income, strengthen infrastructure

Wokha District joined the rest of the nation in the formal launch of the Prime Minister Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) and the Dalhan Aatmanirbharta Mission along with the inauguration and foundation stone laying of over 1,100 projects under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, and Food Processing sectors, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The national launch event, held at the National Agricultural Science Complex (NASC), Pusa, New Delhi, was virtually connected with various districts across the country. In Wokha, the programme was organised at the DC Hall, Wokha where officials and stakeholders joined the live telecast.

Delivering the welcome address, Dr Sandeep Deshmukh, Senior Scientist, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Wokha, highlighted the objectives of the PMDDKY and Dalhan Aatmanirbharta Mission, stating that these initiatives aim to strengthen India’s agricultural infrastructure, boost productivity, and enhance the income of farmers through sustainable and self-reliant practices. 

He also emphasised the importance of capacity building, local innovation, and scientific intervention in addressing agricultural challenges.

Addressing the gathering, Echungbemo Erui, SDO (Civil), Wokha, underlined the significance of the newly launched schemes for farmers and rural communities. He encouraged participants, especially members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) and progressive farmers, to make the best use of the schemes and the resources being provided.

He further added that the schemes would not only improve the pulse production scenario in the country but also open new opportunities for entrepreneurship in the agriculture and allied sectors. He urged departments to work collaboratively to ensure effective implementation and to spread awareness among rural farmers about the benefits of the programmes.

The event in Wokha witnessed participation from officials of KVK Wokha, members of SHGs, and representatives from various departments.

As part of the national launch, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission alongside the PMDDKY, and inaugurated projects worth over Rs 42,000 crore aimed at strengthening India’s agricultural infrastructure and improving livelihoods in rural areas.
