Kohima, April 15 (MExN): A person was arrested in Wokha for allegedly assaulting a minor boy. As per the State DIPR, the Additional Superintendent of Police & Public Relations Officer, Wokha, informed that on April 13, information was received regarding the physical abuse of a child accused of theft of eggs.
Subsequently, a team from Sanis Police Station took the juvenile into their custody and sent for medical assessment to the Community Health Centre, Sanis. He was later put under the custody of the Child Welfare Committee, Wokha.
According to the police, the medical report confirmed that the child sustained injuries “on the left limbs and left lower limbs” suspected to have been caused by bamboo sticks.
During the course of the inquiry, it was ascertained that one Zubeni Ovung had beaten up the child on suspicion of theft of eggs, the DIPR report said. The victim’s father refused filing an FIR but left it to the law enforcement agencies for any follow up action.
Consequently, the authorities took cognisance of the case and took the accused into police custody and a suo moto case registered against the accused under Section 323/324 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act. The Wokha Police emphasised safeguarding the safety and welfare of children as a shared responsibility and called for collectively creating a safer environment for all children.
