DIMAPUR, MAY 31 (MExN): Special Branch personnel on Thursday arrested one woman on suspicion of involvement in child-trafficking. The woman, of around 50 years of age, was identified as Bhanjadi Basumatary alias Suthana, wife of one Mathi Basumatary and presently residing at Lakeview colony (Naga Cemetery), Dimapur.
According to the Special Branch, the woman was detained by a surveillance team near the clock tower junction. She had reportedly picked up a 7-year old ragpicker on the pretext of taking the child to her parents. The minor was said to have lost her way home. Finding her intentions suspicious, the surveillance team questioned her, to which she replied that she was taking the child to her parents.
The child on the other hand said she did not know the woman. The woman it was learned kept on changing her statement further raising suspicion. On making further inquiry it was learned that the woman never knew the child’s parents. The woman was eventually detained for further questioning. It was later learned that the minor was handed over to ‘Childline’.
