“Naga women yesterday are shame but today they are struggling very hard to catch up with the rest of the world for which they require to know their legal rights. Women are not fighting for equality with men as it is clearly stated in the Bible (Gal 5:1, Gal: 3:28) that God has created men and women equal and that they are all one in Jesus Christ who sets us free from all bondages of inferiority complex, fear, shame etc and with the covered of the tomb of Christ rolled away, we are set free. Moreover, all are equal before the law,” Sano stated.
Women should know their role she said but reminded that there are many obstacles need to be cleared which hinder the progress because of the patriarchal society. She pointed out 33% women reservation Act which ensures inclusion of women in decision making in civic bodies which was passed by both the Parliament and State Assembly but the state has miserably failed to implement the same so far.
On the prevailing Naga society, she pointed out that there are many tribal Hohos, societies, NGOs everywhere and also different denominations, political parties and factions among the Naga National Workers and our land is bleeding today due to hatred, selfishness, greed, jealousy, pride and suspicion. We should not allow them to divide the Nagas anymore, “we are Nagas, and will be Nagas”, she said and stressed the need to network, coordinate and march together.
