Dimapur, July 27 (MExN): To encourage the success of vermicomposting and demand of organic manures in the present day, ATMA Dimapur Niuland Block conducted demonstration cum training on ‘low cost vermicomposting methods’ for interested women farmers at Nihokhu village on July 25.
Roben Singh, ACTO (Agronomy), KVK (ICAR), Jharnapani was the resource person. He said that the earthworms being voracious eaters consume the biodegradable matter and give out a part of the matter as excreta or vermi-castings. Fruits, flowers, vegetables and other plant products grown using vermi-compost are reported to have better keeping quality. The beds are maintained at about 40-50% moisture content and a temperature of 20–30°C by sprinkling water over the beds.
Appropriate physical distancing was maintained and COVID 19 safety kits and information pamphlets about precautionary measures were distributed to the 13 women farmers present.
