Kohima, March 31 (MExN): The Nagaland University Teacher’s Association, Kohima today organized a consultation on “Women in decision making” here at Ura Academy Hall with the active participation of top women leaders from Nagaland. NUTA Kohima President, Rosemary Dzuvichu, said that the consultation has been designed to focus on the role of women in decision making at the village, town, state and national level. Dzuvichu, an expert member of National Commission for Women, stated that the recommendations adopted will be forwarded to the State Governor, Chief Minister and Chief Secretary.
The recent amendment of Municipalities Act, adequate representation of women members in local bodies, absence of women representation in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly were among the many issues deliberated in today’s consultation.
The participants shared their experiences in associating with various bodies in decision making. They also spoke of their contributions at the different level.
Dr. N. Venuh, Secretary General, Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights felt that the decision making must start from the grass root level.
He also felt that women should take a bold step in expressing their views and making decision at the various levels.
Tokheli Kikon, Chairperson, Naharbari Village Council, Chanuo Sekhose, Councilor, Kohima Municipal Council, Angela Yhome, Lhisema Council, Kohima Village Council, Padmashree Neidonuo Angami, Director NMA AIDS Hospice and member National Rural Health Mission, Daisy Mezhur, Secretary State Social Welfare Advisory Board and President Nagaland Voluntary Health Association of India, Vizovonuo Dzuvichu, General Secretary Nagaland People’s Front, State Women Wing, Medosanuo Yhome, General Secretary Nagaland Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee also spoke on the occasion.
