‘Women’s Day is not just about celebration—it is a call to action’

Chümoukedima, March 6 (MExN): The Women Cell and Gender Champions, Patkai Christian College celebrated International Women’s Day on the theme ‘Accelerate Action’ at Bundrock Chapel Auditorium on March 6.

The guest of honour, Sandeep M Tamgadge, Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order), PHQ Nagaland spoke on importance of women's empowerment and the need for collective efforts to ensure a more equitable future, stated a press release issued by the Mass Comm, PCC. 

“Women’s Day is not just about celebration—it is a call to action. True empowerment comes not only from acknowledging these issues but actively working toward solutions,” he stated. 

He stressed on importance of education, economic independence, and leadership opportunities for women, encouraging young individuals to advocate for equality.

Tamgadge noted that Nagaland has made significant progress in terms of women's empowerment, with high literacy rates and workforce participation. However, he also pointed out that there is still a long way to go in terms of achieving true gender equality. 

He also shared his observations about the rising cases of domestic violence in Naga society, emphasizing the need to find the root cause of this problem and accelerate action.

He encouraged the audience to work together to create a society where women have equal rights and opportunities.

Earlier, the programme was led by Dr Atosü Hibo, welcome address by Neilevonuo Vüpru and special musical performance by MSSM Ladies. Dr Razoukhrulu Curhah delivered the vote of thanks and closing prayer was said by by senior faculty Angel Sonari.
