DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 28 (MExN): The Nagaland team today began their campaign at the Women’s Senior One Day Trophy with a comfortable win against Manipur by 91 runs (VJD Method) in Kolkata.

Winning the toss, Nagaland elected to bat first and managed to put up a reasonable score of 239 all out on the board in their allotted 50 overs.

The team rode on a fine century from Poonam Khemnar, who is playing as a guest player for the state this season. Her innings of 105 runs of 126 balls included 9 fours and 1 Six. She also became the first woman to hit a century in the BCCI domestic matches for Nagaland State.

She was supported by Kiran Navgire (43 runs, 26 balls, 4x7, 6x1). They contributed a 72 runs 1st wicket partnership after opener Ritu fell early when the score was only 8. The Nagaland team middle order contributed some vital partnership and the late flourish from the bat of Merensola (28 runs, 23 balls, 6x4) helped  the team reach the score of 239 all out, losing the last wicket in the final ball of the match. For the Manipur team, Kiranbala and Niruta took 3 wickets each.

Chasing the target, Manipur fell short by 91 runs by VJD Method as play could not be completed due to bad light. When the play stopped, Manipur were batting at 126/8 after the completion of 40 overs. For Nagaland, Poonam and Kiran took two wickets each. While Merensola, Limatola and Elina chipped in with one wicket each.
