Kandi Students’ Union celebrates Golden Jubilee

On attainment of 50 glorious years since its inception in 1965, the Kandi Students’ Union (KSU) celebrated its golden jubilee from December 30 to 31 last at Kandi under the theme “Strain, Strengthen, Sustain.”
Gracing the celebration as the chief guest, Minister for School Education & SCERT Yitachu expressed happiness over the presence of the first president of KSU Nillo Rengma (former minister) and first MLA from Rengma community Viyekha Apon at the celebration. He said that any given society when there is lack of senior citizens normally that society doesn’t prosper much or don’t acquire unity and understanding. He said when senior citizens and elderly people are not there in the society then there is no check and balance, adding that having so many senior citizens show that Rengma’s community have tranquility and peaceful atmosphere with neighboring villages and tribes.
Stating that jubilee is a time where many recollect what have taken place in the past, he added that jubilee also enable us to face the real challenges and problems that are real and practical. The Minister also challenged the Rengma community to work hard to achieve more, understand the things better and work for Naga unity as one people. “We should upgrade our thought and relationship with one another and Nagas as a whole and live as one people,” he said.
Also urging upon the people to practice truth, he maintained that if one is truthful, success is guarantee but if one don’t practice truth then what one have achieved will be temporary and at the end there will be misery. He added that real love and concern develop when one practice truth. Further, Yitachu said “mindset repairing” has to take place among the Naga people so that real development will take place.
Earlier, KSU president Mehimo Apon delivered presidential address. He stated that over the past 50 years, the KSU has produced leaders who has and are contributing significantly both to the growth of the Kandi society and the state of Nagaland at large and “will continue to do so ever more.”
The celebration also witnessed greetings from Rengma Students’ Union, Angami Students’ Union, Sumi Aphuyemi Kiphimi Kughakulu, Lotha Students’ Union and Pochury Students’ Union. Haiwalo Apon, Executive Secretary, Council of Rengma Baptist Churches (CRBC) acted as the main speaker of the celebration.
