The Working Woman Project launched, grants disbursed

Morung Express New Dimapur | December 12   2 Dimapur II Assembly Constituency (AC) witnessed a historic day in launching The Working Woman Project, a grass roots coalition of Self Help Groups (SHGs) at SM College Auditorium, Dimapur today by Moatoshi Longkumer, MLA. 226 SHGs from the constituency were granted seed money financed under the Local Area Development Programme Fund (LADPF).  

The Project, initiated and promoted by Longkumer focuses on women who have no platform to earn. Started in the month of April, 226 groups have been formed at present with ten members each. Each SHG has been granted an amount of Rs 20,000. The Department of Agriculture, Land Resources, Sericulture and Women Resources collectively funded the grant-in-aid.  

Addressing the gathering, Moatoshi Longkumer encouraged the Naga women by citing successful women entrepreneurs in Mizoram saying that Naga women are no less than the Mizos. “That is why we are launching this project,” he said, maintaining that we as citizens of Dimapur were here to earn a living, and not borrow money from anybody else. As little drops of water makes a mighty ocean, life will turn around if we are able to use the little amount wisely. It is about uplifting your economy, and in the process come together and make Dimapur city clean, Longkumer said and urged the gathering to get rid of the art of begging.   Sungsabeni Jamio, President Naga Women Hoho, Dimapur in her speech appreciated the work rendered to help women. She encouraged them to use it judiciously so that after 5 years, women and mothers will be financially sound, and that’s how clean election would be made possible.  

President, Dimapur Watsu Telongjem, Yarsangla reflected that one who lives independently sets not only a good example, but stays happy in life. She encouraged the gathering to be strong women saying God helps those who help themselves.  

Vimeno Angami, Naga Women Hoho urged the womenfolk to use the seed money for the glory of God.  

Longkumer gave away the cheque of Rs 34 lakh. The programme was chaired by Tiala. Rev Dr T Temjen Ozukum invoked God’s blessing, and welcome speech was given by Hito Aye. Abeni Odyuo presented a special number, while vote of thanks was given by Kerei Pfukha, NPF President, Women Wing 2 Dimapur II AC.
