Dimapur, March 4 (MExN): Miqlat Ministry jointly with the village council, churches, youth and students’ body of Seluophe, Singrijan and Khopanala village continuing its weeklong celebration of International Woman’s Day cum Spring Fest with the theme “An equal world is an enabled world” conducted a workshop on “Women and Children Rights and Issues” on March 4.
Resource person, K Ela, Director, Prodigals Home focused on the short and long term solutions relevant to the prevailing situation in today’s context. She highlighted the various policies and laws which are important in promoting and fostering the role of women in eliminating discrimination, injustice and ensuring equality in all areas.
Encouraging the participants to increase its involvement in all productive fields and fight for due cause against the undue dominance of men, and find the best solution for today and the future generation. Stressing on the rights and issues of women and children, she cited how they often become a victim of domestic violence, child labour, sexual harassment and gender inequality. She stated that everyone from the highest level to the grass root level has a crucial role to play as the emancipation of women and children starts from the womb till the tomb. She enlightened the delegates about the various governmental agencies, NGOs and emergency numbers like 181(women) and 1098 (children) that are prevalent to deal with the related issues. The need of the hour is that women should be socially, intellectually and technologically empowered to create a peaceful and prosperous environment.
The programme was moderated by Shanti Pradhan of Gorkha Baptist Church, Singrijan. About 70 delegates from Seluophe, Singrijan, Murise and Khopanala village attended the workshop.
