Workshop on plastic waste management cum model making competition under Mission LiFE in Commemoration of Earth day 2024 was held in St Joseph University, Chümoukedima.

Chümoukedima, April 22 (MExN): The Newsbites team and IIC, St Joseph University (SJU), Chümoukedima in collaboration with the Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP), Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) conducted a workshop on plastic waste management cum model making competition under Mission LiFE in Commemoration of Earth day 2024 on the theme ‘Planet vs. Plastics.’

The programme was chaired by Dr Nishikanta Naorem, Head department of Journalism and Mass Communication. It began with an invocation by Rev Fr Anish, Pro, SJU after which the welcome address was given by Rev Dr Fr Sunny Joseph, Professor, Department of Education. The presidential address was given by SJU Registrar, Dr A Robert Xavier where he highlighted the importance of Earth day. 

In the keynote address, Er Kevisede, Assist Environmental Engineer, NPCB stressed on the need to combat plastic pollution.

The workshop was divided into four technical sessions in which Er Aghali A. Swu, Environment Engineer, NPCB talked on the topic Plastic waste management; Sentinaro, Senior Scientific Asst, NPCB gave a talked about ban on single use plastic; Khriehunuo Rutsa, Programme Officer, EIACP gave a talk on Earth Day and on the theme ‘Planet Vs Plastic’, Lashikali Chishi spoke about Mission LiFE.

The technical session was followed by exhibition in which the PG second semester students of all the different departments took part in the competition. The Program ended with distribution of prize and certificates to the winners.  Around 400 student and several faculties took part in the programme.
