Workshop on SUMAN, GDM and Antenatal Care held in Longleng

Longleng, March 25 (MExN): A one-day district-level workshop on SUMAN (Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan), Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) and Quality Antenatal Care (ANC) was successfully conducted at the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Conference Hall, Longleng on March 25. 

The programme commenced with a welcome address and an overview of the workshop objectives by Dr Imtijungshi Aier, District Programme Officer (DPO), RMNCAH+N. He highlighted the importance of strengthening maternal healthcare services and ensuring quality antenatal care across all health facilities in the district.

A detailed session on SUMAN focused on ensuring assured, dignified and quality healthcare services for pregnant women and newborns. This was followed by a technical session on conducting quality ANC and proper recording in Mother and Child Protection (MCP) cards, with special emphasis on early identification of high-risk pregnancies. The session was presented by Dr Nounenuo Terhase, Senior Gynaecologist, District Hospital Longleng. 

The second session covered critical topics, including identification and tracking of high-risk pregnancies as per updated guidelines and the management of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus at all levels of healthcare. Emphasis was laid on early diagnosis, timely referral and adherence to operational guidelines for improved maternal and neonatal outcomes. The sessions were facilitated by Viroli Sangtam, District Programme Manager (DPM), NHM Longleng.

The workshop also stressed the need to improve first ANC registration and ensure completion of at least four ANC visits, along with accurate reporting through the Health Management Information System (HMIS) and effective implementation of Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) and Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) schemes.
