LONGLENG, AUGUST 10 (MExN): The District Health Society, Longleng, observed World Breastfeeding Week from August 1 to 7 under the theme “Invest in Breastfeeding, Invest in the Future.”
The week-long programme, launched at the District Hospital Longleng on August 1, was observed across all health units in the district. During the period, healthcare workers conducted interpersonal communication during home visits, educating and sensitising mothers on the importance and benefits of exclusive breastfeeding.
At the launch programme, held with newborns, mothers and their families, Dr Sanuzolu, paediatrician at District Hospital Longleng, spoke on the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding for six months and initiating breastfeeding within one hour of birth. She said the event served as a platform to educate, empower and support mothers in their breastfeeding journey, ensuring the health and well-being of both mother and child.
Earlier, Dr Chai-e, Medical Officer, District Hospital Longleng, delivered the welcome address and stressed the importance of breastfeeding.
