Dimapur, December 4 (MExN): As the world celebrate the World Disabled Day on December 3, Mokokchung denizens also observe the day in a much elaborated way. In continuance with the first ever Differently Abled Peoples’ Meet Mokokchung, the World Disabled Day was organized jointly by DMA SSA Mokokchung, Forum for Special People Mokokchung and Care & Support Society Mokokchung. Altogether 131 disabled person and around 150 participant, parents and guardians attended the event under the theme “I know I can”.
Dr. SS Aka, DCMO Mokokchung was the chief guest. In his speech, he stressed on the whole round development of the land, inclusive of the differently abled people. But sadly, differently abled people are deprived of so many facilities and schemes. His challenge to the gathering focused on having courage and stand for the upliftment of the welfare of the differently abled people in the district.
Other important highlights of the day were Significance of the day by Takamayang, District education Officer Mokokchung; Rights of Differently Abled People by T Imkong, District Welfare Officer, Mokokchung; voice from Differently Abled People by Sentilong, President of Sentilong Welfare Society, Mokokchung; facilities under SSA by Chubainla IED Co-ordinator DMS, SSA, Mokokchung; special presentation by Hearing Impaired girls enthralled the gathering with their choreography and the theme song was sung by Akangmongba, a visually impaired person.
Chubalepden, ToT EBRC Mokokchung chaired the programme and Imchawati Kichu gave the vote of thanks.
The program was followed by a health mela initiated by CMO of Mokokchung district, where all the differently abled people were given free medical check-ups and medicines. Simultaneously, an assessment camp was conducted for the differently abled people by the Red Cross Society Mokokchung. The World Disabled Day concluded with the distribution of certificates and prizes for the differently abled people. “In its whole the World Disabled Day at Mokokchung Town was an eye opener as well as a time of retrospection and introspection for the parents of the differently abled and citizens of the town to positive reach out to all differently abled people and helping them out in every possible way,” the note further stated.
