Dimapur, April 17 (MExN): The History Club and faculty members of Department of History, Dimapur Government College (DGC) celebrated World Heritage Day on the theme ‘Discover and Experience Diversity.’ Sentila T Yanger, Padmashree, State Convener INTACH, Nagaland Chapter, the guest speaker spoke on the importance of understanding heritage in our lives and creating awareness on the conservation and preservation of the same, stated a press release issued by DGC. 

Sentila spoke on ways and methods of conserving heritage through community involvement, organizing events and being a part of cultural institutions. She encouraged students to explore creative ways like food heritage, cultural tourism and how sharing knowledge and living with the communities can cement friendship and have immersive experience over flavors, taste and environment. She stressed that documenting traditional practices, language, crafts are ways of educating and preserving heritage.

The programme witnessed competitions on ‘cultural heritage.’ In the War Cry category, the winners were Lengsho Pangkha (6th Sem)-first; Kughaholi K Zhimo (6th Sem)-second and Zaden Ovung (2nd Sem) -third. In the Perfomative acts/display category, Mlei-Ngyi Group with the display of Rice pounding, Winnowing and Pottery won the fisrt place. Moatsu Group came second with demonstration of weaving textile while Ngada Group won thirds place for their performance of traditional games.

The judges for the competition were Dr Asangba, Asst Professor, Department of Philosophy, Shuiching Konyak, Asst Professor, Department of English and Asenla T Longkumer, Asst Professor, Department of History. The competition was hosted by Neisenuo Apon Rengma.

The Vise President of History Club, Nungsangjenla (6th Sem) chaired the programme while welcome address was delivered by Dr Meripeni Ngully, HoD, Department of History and vote of thanks proposed by Chumseba Sangtam (4th Sem).
