Citizens of Dimapur and Chümoukedima came together to celebrate World Music Day on June 21 at Green Park, 5th Mile with a free concert, which was jointly organized by Sky Entertainment, Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA) and other event partners.
Several artists, both young and renowned, took to the stage to perform an array of cover songs and originals. The line included DJ Ina, Kekhrie Ringa, Code XXVII, Version2, Clement Imsong, Tongpangkokla Jamir, Thunglamo Ngullie, Kuoho Puro, Nadia Yanthan, Vesekho Dozo, Temsu David and Bamile Pame.
Speaking on behalf of TaFMA, Chairman, Theja Meru acknowledged the love and bond that music creates for the people of Nagaland. He noted that World Music day was being celebrated across eight districts of the State showing the enthusiasm and passion for music embedded amongst the people as a whole.
Further, he stressed that the creation of TaFMA was to propel local musicians to the forefront of entertainment, music business and artistic vision. Over the years, a host of locally grown artists have gained fame and recognition across the country, he said. Adding that the journey has thus far has been positive and successful for Nagaland’s music industry. As such, it was crucial that the people continue to support and encourage musicians to aim for higher objectives in the years to come, he stated.
Meanwhile, event organizer and CEO of Green Park, Yanren Kikon mentioned that the idea to host the free concert came about through a joint collaboration with like-minded individuals who shared in the love and appreciation for music irrespective of its genre. He also viewed that the platform would provide an opportunity for young, upcoming and undiscovered artists to showcase their skills and talent.
The concert drew in a sizeable crowd, both young and old, as the evening progressed.
Event partners were, Love East, Crescendo, Shiu Lights, Infinity Inc among others.
Earlier in the day, an art gallery was also inaugurated by Theja Meru at the venue which featured paintings, photographs and sculptures made by local artisans. Invocation was delivered by Dr Ruokiovilie Sachu, Pastor of Khedi Baptist Church, Kohima. Keynote address was given by Yanren Kikon.
