Kiphire | May 3
People in Kiphire nowadays are going through certain exercises reminiscent of WWF wrestling – they are facing a lot of trouble in procuring Kerosene, thanks to irregular electricity supply in the district, rife with load-shedding and black-outs.
The desperate Kiphire citizens in search for Kerosene “gets their clothes racked, sandals on one leg, sleeves on one shoulder” from the fighting and wrestling to procure a few liters of the precious fuel in the hot scorching summer of May. Many return empty-handed, gloomy, wearied as if returning from some type of a Second World War.
Kerosene reaches Kiphire district only once after three or four months .Being an interior area and one of the most remote areas from mainland towns or depots in Nagaland, most of the people of Kiphire and its adjoining areas depend on Kerosene as a main source of light and fuel. Irregularity in power supply is the main culprit for the seriousness of Kerosene shortage in Kiphire.
Although Kiphire has become a district headquarter no measures till now have being taken so far to alleviate the problem. So until amenities and related supply-mechanism improve, the people of Kiphire will not only have to get their clothes torn struggling to purchase Kerosene but also have to pass long nights in darkness. Meanwhile, the whole district remains plunged in darkness.
