WSYF condemns assault on vendor, vandalism at food stall

Dimapur, October 18 (MExN): The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) has strongly condemned a violent incident targeting a roadside food stall vendor in the Burma Camp area of Dimapur.

According to WSYF, a group of unidentified individuals, reportedly travelling in a black Thar vehicle, assaulted the vendor. The altercation allegedly began over a dispute concerning the quantity of meat served to the customers. The WSYC stated that the situation escalated dramatically when the individuals used their vehicle to ram into the food cart multiple times. They also issued threats to burn down the cart, creating a scene of intimidation.

In a statement, the WSYC labelled the acts as “senseless” and reflective of a “disturbing disregard for the dignity and livelihood of hardworking citizens.” It asserted that no grievance, regardless of its scale, justifies the destruction of a person's property or means of livelihood.

Terming the incident as an “alarming sign of growing lawlessness and moral decay,” the WSYC urged law enforcement authorities to take immediate and decisive action to identify and bring the culprits to justice.

“The culture of fear, arrogance and impunity that fuels such hooliganism has no place in a civilized society,” it added.

WSYF also appealed to the youth to be “torchbearers of discipline and respect” and to stand united against acts of cowardice and violence, reaffirming a collective stance against intimidation and anti-social behaviour.
